Karzai Reaffirms Girls School Reopenings, Women’s Full Participation
DID Press: On International Women’s Day, former Afghan President Hamid Karzai praised the historic contributions of Afghan women to the country’s development. In a statement issued Sunday, he emphasized that women, working side by side with men, have played a key role in Afghanistan’s growth and progress.

Karzai stressed that ensuring the nation’s present needs and future advancement depends on women’s active participation across all social sectors. He called again for the immediate reopening of schools and universities for girls and for women to return to work and active societal roles, enabling Afghanistan to prosper through its own talent rather than relying on foreign aid.
This marks another occasion where Hamid Karzai has underscored the importance of female education and women’s contributions to Afghan society.
