US Designates Afghanistan as ‘Wrongful Detention’ Country

DID Press: Marco Rubio, U.S. Secretary of State, announced that Afghanistan has been designated a “country engaged in wrongful detentions.”

In an official statement, Rubio accused the Taliban authorities of detaining foreign nationals, including Americans, to gain political leverage or extract concessions. He said the group continues to employ what Washington described as “terrorist tactics,” including kidnappings and detentions for ransom or political pressure, and called for such actions to stop immediately.

Rubio also warned that Afghanistan is unsafe for U.S. citizens to travel, citing the continued detention of Americans and other foreign nationals.

The statement urged the Taliban administration to immediately release Dennis Cole and Mahmood Habibi, along with all U.S. citizens whom Washington says are being unjustly held in Afghanistan.

Rubio stressed that the Taliban must permanently end what the United States calls “hostage diplomacy.”
