US Warns Taliban: Release Detained Citizens or Face Consequences

DID Press: Adam Boehler, US Special Envoy for Hostage Affairs, has urged the Taliban to release detained American citizens, warning that Afghanistan must not test the resolve of the United States.

Boehler stated that continued detentions could bring consequences similar to those faced by countries such as Iran and Venezuela. He stressed in a message on X (formerly Twitter): “The United States will no longer tolerate any country holding its citizens hostage.”

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that Afghanistan has been designated as a country that unlawfully detains US citizens. He accused the Taliban of using hostage-like tactics to extract political concessions, emphasizing that such methods will not succeed against the current US administration.

Washington reiterated its commitment to securing the release of its citizens and holding those responsible accountable.
