Afghanistan’s UN Envoy Says Taliban Policies Deepening National Crisis

DID Press: Nasir Ahmad Faiq, Afghanistan’s acting representative to the United Nations, told the United Nations Security Council that the policies of the Taliban administration have worsened the country’s humanitarian, economic, and social crises.

Speaking during a Security Council session, Faiq noted that Afghanistan is approaching the fifth year of Taliban rule, adding that the group has taken no meaningful steps to change its policies or address the needs of the Afghan people.

He said Taliban governance has become increasingly restrictive and exclusionary, pushing the country deeper into overlapping crises.

Faiq also highlighted the systematic exclusion of women and girls from public life, saying widespread restrictions on girls’ education have left an entire generation at risk of losing access to schooling.

According to him, the situation is the result of deliberate decisions by the Taliban authorities.

The Afghan envoy further urged the Security Council to take action to prevent Pakistani attacks on civilian areas in Afghanistan, and stressed that the Taliban do not represent the Afghan people.

He called on the international community to pay greater attention to humanitarian conditions and the protection of citizens’ rights in Afghanistan.
