Taliban Urges ‘Constructive Engagement’ With US to Resolve Detainee Issue
DID Press: Foreign Ministry of the Taliban has criticized a decision by the United States to place Afghanistan on a list of countries accused of supporting “wrongful detentions,” describing the move as regrettable.

Abdul Qahar Balkhi, spokesperson for the Taliban’s Foreign Ministry, said in a statement that none of the foreign nationals currently held in Afghanistan had been detained for political bargaining purposes.
According to Balkhi, the Taliban authorities have taken practical steps over the past year to address cases involving some foreign citizens through mediation by Qatar, emphasizing that these efforts were made in good faith.
He added that the Taliban administration believes the issue of detainees should be resolved through “constructive and direct engagement” between Kabul and Washington, describing such dialogue as the only viable path toward a fair and lasting solution.
