Over 115,000 Displaced in Eastern Afghanistan Amid Escalating Clashes With Pakistan

DID Press: More than 115,000 people have been displaced in eastern Afghanistan following intensified clashes with Pakistan, according to a new report by the Norwegian Refugee Council.

The organization said civilians in eastern Afghanistan have borne the brunt of the violence. Since February 26, the escalation of fighting in several eastern provinces has forced tens of thousands of families to flee their homes.

During the first eight days of the clashes alone, at least 56 civilians were killed and 129 others injured, the report said.

The Norwegian Refugee Council warned that many families who were already living in difficult conditions have now been forced to take shelter in temporary camps or with relatives. As a result, access to drinking water, healthcare services, and education has become severely limited.

The report also noted that 826 homes have been damaged or completely destroyed during the fighting, while several health centers have suspended operations due to insecurity.

Ongoing violence and movement restrictions have also complicated humanitarian relief efforts, making it difficult for aid agencies to reach affected communities.

The Norwegian Refugee Council stressed that civilians in eastern Afghanistan remain among the most vulnerable victims of the conflict and urgently require humanitarian assistance, calling for stronger international efforts to ensure security and deliver aid to displaced populations.
