US Intelligence: Taliban Has Curbed ISIS-K Attacks in Afghanistan

DID Press: US intelligence community has assessed that the Taliban has successfully reduced attacks by ISIS-K in Afghanistan.

According to the annual report, Taliban forces have conducted extensive operations against ISIS-K targets, in some cases preventing planned attacks by the group.

Despite these gains, the report warns that Al-Qaeda and ISIS remain the most significant threats to U.S. interests worldwide. Both groups continue to operate across Africa, West Asia, and South Asia.

The report estimates Al-Qaeda’s membership at between 15,000 and 28,000 fighters, while ISIS is believed to have between 12,000 and 18,000 members globally.

U.S. intelligence officials cautioned that these groups retain the capability to carry out attacks and pose ongoing risks to global security, underscoring the need for continued international counterterrorism efforts.
