Pakistan Army Chief Warns of Crackdown on Iran-Linked Unrest

DID Press: Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan, warned that any actions disrupting public order under the pretext of supporting Iran would be met with an “iron fist” and live ammunition.

The warning came during a meeting in Islamabad between the army chief and a group of Shiite clerics. According to local reports, the one-hour session was described by Hosnain Gardizi, imam of the Imam Ali Mosque, as largely one-sided, with limited opportunity for participants to express their views.

Munir emphasized that Pakistani territory would not be used for hostile actions against Iran, referencing a social media statement by Abbas Araghchi. He stated that no threat to Iran would originate from Pakistani soil.

At the same time, the army chief adopted a firm tone on domestic security, telling attendees that individuals strongly aligned with Iran could relocate there if they wished.

Addressing regional alliances, Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s defense partnership with Saudi Arabia, noting that Islamabad would be obligated to provide support if requested. He also asserted that Saudi Arabia does not host U.S. military bases intended for strikes against Iran.
