Rising Instability Fears in Eastern Nuristan After Pakistan Border Strikes

DID Press: Local sources in eastern Nuristan Province report growing security concerns following recent cross-border attacks by Pakistani forces, with conditions in the border districts of Kamdesh District and Barg-e-Matal District described as increasingly fragile.

Three independent sources said daily shelling along the frontier has disrupted movement into and out of these regions and reportedly resulted in dozens of Taliban casualties—figures that have not yet been officially confirmed.

Following reported losses in the districts of Nurgaram District and Barg-e-Matal, Taliban authorities deployed two fresh battalions from a brigade to eastern Nuristan to prevent the potential loss of border المناطق. Meanwhile, the closure of key transport routes for nearly 20 days has triggered severe food shortages and raised fears of an emerging humanitarian crisis.

Local residents warned that continued instability could lead to the collapse of districts or further deterioration of security. Some sources also indicated an increased risk of infiltration by Islamic State (ISIS), citing local grievances and the spread of Salafi ideological influence in the region.

In response, Taliban officials stated that Pakistani forces targeted a civilian vehicle in Kamdesh on the first day of Eid al-Fitr, killing a female doctor and her four-year-old child. Authorities implicitly confirmed the closure of roads but did not provide details regarding reported casualties among their forces.
