Iran Blames US and Israel for Hormuz Tensions, Vows Firm Defense

DID Press: Abbas Araghchi stated that rising insecurity in the strategic Strait of Hormuz is a “direct consequence” of what he described as illegal military attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran.

The remarks came during a phone call between Araghchi and Cho Hyun, where both sides discussed bilateral relations between Tehran and Seoul and the latest regional developments following recent military escalation.

According to Iran’s Foreign Ministry, the South Korean diplomat expressed concern about ongoing instability in the region and warned that continued conflict and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz could have serious repercussions for the global economy. He emphasized the need for diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions.

Araghchi, in response, reiterated that Iran would firmly defend its national sovereignty and territorial integrity against external aggression. He added that the waterway remains closed to vessels belonging to what Iran considers aggressor states and their supporters, while ships from other countries can transit the strait without difficulty in coordination with Iranian authorities.
