Lin Jian stated that the intruder, identified by Japanese police as an active-duty Japanese Self-Defense Force officer, scaled the embassy wall carrying an 18-cm knife and was handed over to local authorities.
The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs lodged formal protests in Beijing and Tokyo, condemning the breach as a serious threat to embassy staff safety, a violation of diplomatic premises, and a failure by Japan to uphold its obligations under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
