Pakistan Reopens Torkham Crossing Unilaterally to Expel Afghan Migrants
DID Press: Pakistan has unilaterally reopened the Torkham border crossing to deport Afghan migrants. On 26 March 2026, 40 Afghan migrants held at the Landi Kotal camp were returned to Afghanistan through this crossing.

Published images show the migrants had been detained at the Hamza Baba camp in Landi Kotal and were transferred after administrative procedures were completed. Local sources indicate a second group of approximately 150 migrants is in the process of being released and prepared for deportation.
The Taliban have not yet responded to Pakistan’s unilateral action or the deportations via Torkham. Earlier reports of the reopening had been denied by a Taliban border police spokesperson.
