Food and Medicine Shortages Hit Nuristan Amid Blocked Roads
DID Press: For nearly two months, road access to Afghanistan’s Nuristan province has been cut off, raising concerns over a growing humanitarian crisis.

Mohammad Azam Nuristani, head of the “Nuristan Elders Council,” said that closed routes in the Kamdesh and Bargamatal districts have severely disrupted daily life for residents.
He added that shortages of food, medicine, and limited access to medical services have created a critical situation for the population.
According to Nuristani, the Taliban have so far failed to reopen these roads, and airlifted aid has been minimal, reaching only a small portion of the affected people.
The Taliban attribute the road closures to snowfall and natural factors, but some local sources indicate that Pakistani rocket attacks have also contributed to the disruptions.
Meanwhile, a group of Nuristani tribal elders meeting with Taliban officials in Kabul have demanded urgent action to reopen the roads and address the needs of the local population.
