Humanitarian Agencies Report Deadly Floods Across Afghanistan

DID Press: UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and the Taliban’s Disaster Management Authority have reported that heavy rainfall and flash floods in multiple Afghan provinces have caused dozens of casualties and widespread damage.

At least 17 people have died, and several others were injured following sudden floods in parts of Afghanistan.

OCHA stated that the livelihoods of affected populations have been severely disrupted, with extensive damage to infrastructure and homes. The organization added that it, along with its partners, is assessing the full scope of damage and responding to urgent humanitarian needs.

The Taliban’s Disaster Management Authority reported that flooding has affected the provinces of Badghis, Sar-e Pol, Parwan, Daikundi, Logar, Maidan Wardak, Farah, Herat, Ghor, Samangan, Faryab, Jowzjan, and Laghman.

Local officials have warned that continued rainfall could lead to further flooding and damage, emphasizing the urgent need for humanitarian assistance to support affected communities.
