DID Press: Dominic Waghorn, International Affairs Editor at Sky News, stated that Donald Trump has entered a conflict he cannot win, arguing that the U.S. president made a strategic miscalculation regarding the level of Iranian resistance to sustained aerial bombardment.
According to Waghorn, American analysts had anticipated a scenario similar to Venezuela—namely a short-term conflict leading to the rapid collapse of the political system.
He added that Trump’s statements have been fundamentally contradictory. While attempting to portray the current situation as a victory and claiming that “regime change” has been achieved, the only real outcome, he argued, has been the emergence of a structure that is significantly more hardline—an outcome clearly not aligned with the original objectives of the United States at the outset of the war.
