FAO Report Highlights Dual Impact of Heavy Rainfall on Afghanistan Agriculture

DID Press: Ongoing rainfall in Afghanistan is creating favorable conditions for agriculture while simultaneously raising the risk of natural hazards such as floods and frost.

A recent report from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations indicates that recent precipitation has increased soil moisture across many regions of Afghanistan, benefiting farmers—particularly those cultivating legumes.

At the same time, forecasts suggest that rainfall will continue in the coming weeks, potentially intensifying into heavy downpours in some areas. This situation heightens the risk of flooding in both urban and rural regions.

Additionally, temperatures are expected to drop below zero Celsius in certain areas, which could damage agricultural crops.
