UN FAO Warns of Widespread Rainfall and Potential Floods in Afghanistan

DID Press: UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has warned of the likelihood of widespread rainfall across Afghanistan in the coming week.

According to FAO, these rains are expected between March 31 and April 5, with the heaviest precipitation forecast for parts of the central, eastern, and southeastern provinces.

The organization cautioned that concentrated heavy rainfall in these regions could increase the risk of flash floods.

The report also noted that successive rainfall in recent weeks has significantly improved soil moisture in many areas of Afghanistan, which could benefit agricultural production but simultaneously heightens flood risks.
