Herat Officials Issue Warning Over Serious Dangers on Herat–Kandahar Highway
DID Press: Local authorities in Herat have urged citizens to avoid non-essential travel on the Herat–Kandahar highway due to heavy rainfall and the increased risk of flooding.

Officials from the Herat provincial administration stated that following intense rainfall in recent days, conditions along the Herat–Kandahar highway have deteriorated significantly, raising concerns about flooding and damage to sections of the road.
Mohammad Yousuf Saeedi, spokesperson for the Taliban governor in Herat, said the highway is currently facing serious threats, including water accumulation, landslides, and reduced driver visibility, making travel potentially dangerous for passengers.
He emphasized that citizens should take official warnings seriously and refrain from unnecessary travel on this route until conditions fully improve.
Saeedi added that technical teams and assessment units are continuously monitoring the highway situation, and immediate measures will be taken if necessary to reopen and secure the route.
He further noted that relevant agencies, in coordination with other local departments, have developed crisis management plans to prevent further damage, and efforts to reduce potential risks are ongoing.
