Kabul–Jalalabad Highway Reblocked Due to Floods and Landslide

DID Press: Kabul–Jalalabad highway has once again been completely closed to traffic due to heavy rainfall, flash flooding, and landslides in the Tangi Gharu area.

According to the Ministry of Public Works, the route—which had been reopened on Friday morning, April 4, following efforts by technical and operational teams of the Kabul provincial Public Works Directorate—was blocked again around 7:00 p.m. Continued heavy rainfall, flooding, and falling rocks onto the roadway were identified as the primary causes of the closure.

Reports also indicate that an alternative route along the highway has been damaged by flooding. As a result, both the main and secondary routes are currently closed to all vehicles.

The Ministry of Public Works has urged citizens and drivers to avoid traveling on this route until further notice. The ministry also warned that additional rockfalls remain possible in the area.
