Fuel Prices in Afghanistan Up to 46% Lower than Pakistan
DID Press: Reports indicate that the prices of petrol, diesel, and liquefied gas in Afghanistan are significantly lower than in neighboring Pakistan.

According to the latest data, the current retail prices in Afghanistan are:
- Petrol: $0.97 per liter
- Diesel: $1.05 per liter
- Liquefied gas: $0.76 per kilogram
In comparison, prices in Pakistan stand at:
- Petrol: $1.64 per liter
- Diesel: $1.86 per liter
- Liquefied gas: $1.70 per kilogram
These figures indicate that Afghan consumers benefit from an average price reduction of approximately 46.5% compared to Pakistan.
Economists attribute this disparity to several factors, including a diversified fuel and gas market, lower taxes on these products, and price guarantee mechanisms that keep costs manageable for consumers.
This significant price difference directly impacts daily household expenses, particularly for families that spend a substantial portion of their income on energy.
Given rising volatility in global energy markets, experts recommend that the Afghan government strengthen regulatory frameworks and support the domestic market to maintain affordable fuel and gas prices for consumers.
