Deadly Floods and Storms Cause Widespread Destruction Across Afghanistan

DID Press: National Disaster Management Authority reported that since March 26, severe weather-related disasters across Afghanistan have killed 157 people, injured hundreds, and caused extensive damage nationwide.

According to the latest figures, a series of natural events—including heavy rainfall, flash floods, lightning strikes, earthquakes, and the collapse of residential buildings—have struck multiple regions, leaving significant human and material losses.

Spokesperson Mohammad Yousuf Hamad stated that 157 people have died and 229 others have been injured during this period. He added that the intensity of rainfall and flooding has led to the complete or partial destruction of 6,865 homes.

The report noted that the damage extends beyond housing, with approximately 18,400 jeribs of agricultural land either severely damaged or entirely destroyed. This level of destruction has raised serious concerns about food security and the livelihoods of rural families.

Authorities emphasized that emergency response teams are actively providing assistance in affected areas, but the scale of the disaster is vast and requires urgent, coordinated support. Continued rainfall also raises the risk of further casualties and losses.
