Pope Leo XIV Condemns Civilian Killings and War Policies

DID Press: Pope Leo XIV strongly criticized military policies of leaders in United States, stating that the killing of civilians has no justification and that warfare cannot be considered divinely sanctioned.

According to reports, Pope Leo XIV said: “No reason can justify the shedding of innocent blood, and God does not bless any armed conflict.”

He emphasized that violence and war are fundamentally incompatible with religious teachings and moral principles.

The pontiff further stated: “Anyone who follows Christ cannot stand with those who once used swords and now drop bombs.”

His remarks have been widely interpreted as a direct critique of war-oriented policies pursued by some governments, particularly the United States. Pope Leo XIV has repeatedly highlighted the humanitarian consequences of armed conflicts and called for an end to violence and a global commitment to lasting peace.
