Khalilzad Expresses Condolences After Armed Attack in Herat

In the attack on civilians in a recreational area in Injil district, at least 7 people were killed and 13 others injured.

Local authorities in Herat confirmed that the incident occurred while residents had gone to the area for leisure and recreation. According to officials, unknown armed men opened fire on civilians, causing heavy casualties.

Medical sources in Herat described the condition of some of the wounded as critical, warning that the death toll may rise. The injured have been transferred to medical facilities for treatment.

Security officials said one suspect has been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the attack, while operations continue to identify and detain other perpetrators. Investigations are ongoing to determine the motive and circumstances of the incident.

Meanwhile, Zalmay Khalilzad issued a statement expressing sorrow over the attack, saying he was deeply saddened by reports of 7 deaths and 13 injuries caused by unidentified armed individuals in Herat. He noted that the victims had been at the location for recreation and extended his condolences to all affected families.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. The incident comes amid ongoing concerns about rising insecurity and repeated attacks on civilians in parts of Afghanistan.
