Afghanistan–Uzbekistan Move to 24H Operations at Hairatan Port
DID Press: Officials in Balkh province announced that Afghanistan and Uzbekistan have agreed to operate the Hairatan port on a 24-hour basis in order to increase capacity and accelerate the movement of goods.

Local authorities in Balkh said the agreement will significantly expand railway-based cargo transport capacity through the Hairatan crossing.
Under the deal, the number of freight wagons is expected to increase from around 130 per day to between 500 and 700, which is anticipated to reduce waiting times at the border and speed up cargo processing.
Both countries also emphasized the expansion of cooperation and the creation of additional railway facilitation measures to ensure smoother and faster regional trade flows.
Officials said the agreement could play an important role in strengthening regional commerce, improving economic connectivity, and enhancing Afghanistan’s transport infrastructure capacity.
The two sides also discussed joint mechanisms to develop logistics services and further accelerate the movement of goods through the Hairatan border terminal.
