Rising Rents in Kabul Spark Growing Public Concern
DID Press: A significant rise in housing rents in Kabul over recent months has triggered serious concern among residents.

A number of citizens report an unprecedented surge in rental prices, saying the trend has intensified recently. According to them, in some areas of the city landlords have increased rents by up to 100%, placing heavy financial pressure on families, particularly low-income households.
Residents emphasize that the continuation of this situation is creating serious challenges in their daily lives, forcing some families to move to more distant areas or to smaller homes in order to reduce costs.
They are calling on authorities to introduce clear regulations and enforce strict monitoring to prevent uncontrolled rent increases.
Meanwhile, officials from the Ministry of Justice stated that housing rent regulation and oversight is carried out by a joint committee. They added that landlords who illegally raise rents in violation of rules and procedures will face legal action.
However, some residents believe that these measures are insufficient and are demanding more practical steps, including setting a fixed rent ceiling and facilitating housing construction to ease pressure on the market.
