EU Calls for Independent Investigation into Deadly Shooting in Herat

The EU delegation in Afghanistan described the attack as “horrific,” stating that any form of violence or terrorism against civilians—by any individual or group under any circumstances—is unacceptable and that perpetrators must be held accountable under the law.

Following the incident, several international human rights organizations and monitoring groups also urged the launch of transparent and independent investigations to clarify the details of the attack and identify those responsible, stressing that accountability is essential to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Inside Afghanistan, local authorities in Herat Province said security forces have launched extensive operations to identify and arrest those involved.

The provincial governor stated that preliminary investigations are ongoing and efforts to detain the perpetrators continue, adding that those responsible will soon be arrested and referred to judicial authorities.
