Ex-Afghan Intelligence Chief Condemns Herat Shooting as ‘Crime Against Humanity’

DID Press: Rahmatullah Nabil, former head of Afghanistan’s National Directorate of Security, reacted to the recent shooting incident in Herat Province, stating that 21 innocent civilians, including women, men, and children, were targeted solely because of differences in beliefs, resulting in fatalities and injuries.

He stressed that the incident should not be viewed merely as an isolated event, describing it instead as “a deep wound on the conscience of a wounded nation.”

Nabil emphasized that whenever intellectual and religious differences are deliberately criminalized by those in power, the consequence is the erosion of humanity and the normalization of violence.

He added that the people of Herat are now in mourning, but that grief should evolve into a shared message: “No to hatred among the people.”

The former intelligence chief further characterized the killing of civilians due to ideological or religious differences as a “crime against humanity,” underscoring that the survival of society depends on tolerance, mutual acceptance, and peaceful coexistence.

Local authorities have reported that 11 people were killed in the Herat shooting incident.
