UNAMA Urges Kabul to Investigate Deadly Shooting in Herat

DID Press: United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan issued a statement confirming that at least 22 people were killed or injured in a deadly shooting in Herat Province and expressed condolences to the victims and their families.

According to the statement, the incident occurred when unidentified armed individuals opened fire on local residents who had gathered at a recreational site near a shrine associated with the Shiite community in the Deh Mehri area, located between the Injil District and Zinda Jan District.

As a result of the attack, at least 11 people were killed and another 11 were injured, including women and children among the victims.

Georgette Gagnon, Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations for Afghanistan, expressed sympathy with those affected and wished the injured a swift recovery.

She emphasized that, in order to protect civilians from armed violence, the governing authorities must conduct a thorough and serious investigation into the deadly incident.
