Erdoğan Threatens Possible Military Action Against Israel Amid Rising Regional Tensions

DID Press: Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of Turkey, threatened that Ankara could take military action against Israel if Israeli attacks on Lebanon persist—a warning that prompted strong reactions from Israeli officials.

Erdoğan criticized Benjamin Netanyahu, stating that he had been “blinded by blood and hatred,” and added that there was “no reason” to refrain from attacking Israel.

He further said that if Pakistan had not been mediating between the United States and Iran, Turkey would have already taken decisive action against Israel. He added: “Just as we entered Libya and Nagorno-Karabakh, we can enter Israel as well.”

These remarks come as Turkish prosecutors filed charges against 35 senior Israeli officials, including Netanyahu, seeking a combined total of more than 4,500 years in prison. The accused face charges including crimes against humanity, genocide, torture, and unlawful deprivation of liberty.

Turkey’s Justice Minister described the indictment as “historic” and defended the move.

In response, Israeli officials reacted sharply. Netanyahu accused Erdoğan, in a message posted on social media, of “massacring Kurdish citizens.” Meanwhile, Israel Katz labeled Erdoğan a member of the Muslim Brotherhood, and Itamar Ben-Gvir used particularly harsh language against the Turkish leader on social media.

Turkey has previously accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza Strip and, in May 2024, imposed trade sanctions that halted most economic exchanges with Israel. As both countries seek to expand regional influence, Turkey—possessing NATO’s second-largest military after the United States—remains a significant military power in the region.
