According to unconfirmed reports, the fourth round of meeting between the Taliban representatives and American officials is expected to be held before Eid al-Adha in Qatar.
According to unconfirmed reports, the fourth round of meeting between the Taliban representatives and American officials is expected to be held before Eid al-Adha in Qatar.
The American officials, the government of Afghanistan and Taliban group have not confirmed the report yet.
However, some Taliban sources confirmed that their representatives have met with the US principle assistant Secretary for the Bureau of South and central Asian affairs Alice Wells three times for the purpose of initiating formal and targeted talks.
Taliban sources said the talks were confirmed by the leadership of the group.
Western media outlets reported that US officials and Taliban representatives have discussed Taliban’s free activities in two provinces, sharing power with Taliban and the functioning of US bases in Afghanistan.
Some Taliban sources have told media outlets that the result of the meeting was positive.
Taliban confirms their representatives met with US officials as US president Donald Trump had earlier ordered his country’s senior diplomats to provide the ground for direct talks with Taliban group. But Washington has not confirmed or rejected the meeting with Taliban representatives.
The Taliban group has vowed it will only negotiate with the US authorities on peace in Afghanistan long ago.
Meanwhile, the government of Afghanistan and high peace council have repeatedly accentuated that Afghans lead the peace negotiations and any country which take part in this process will only have a facilitating role.
