Taliban must Accept Ceasefire: Australian PM
President Ashraf Ghani discussed peace process and bilateral relations with the Australian Prime Minister (PM) Scott Morrison on Monday morning, the Presidential Palace said in a statement.
According to the statement, the Taliban must accept ceasefire which the rightful desire of the Afghan people.
“Both sides discussed expansion of bilateral relations and Afghanistan peace process, while strongly denouncing the Taliban’s ongoing surge in violence in Afghanistan,” said the statement citing Australian PM. “Australia supports an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process where the achievements and values of the past two decades should not only be preserved but be expanded and sustained,” he added.
President Ashraf Ghani thanked Australia for its assistance with Afghanistan in various areas and its support for the peace process, and called Australia as a good friend and a global ally of Afghanistan.
