Taliban Caretaker Government Honors National Wushu Champions

DID Press: Mohammad Taha Isaqi and Ahmad Naveed Akbari, two members of the national Wushu team, who achieved three medals at the Asian Championship in China, were welcomed by officials of the Taliban caretaker government in Kabul on Saturday, August 2, 2025.

The two athletes won one gold, one silver, and one bronze medal for Afghanistan in the Asian competition. Official sources have not yet clarified which medal was won by which athlete, but both have made a significant contribution to the success of Afghanistan’s sports delegation.

Hamadullah Wasiq, the head of the National Olympic Committee under the interim Taliban administration, praised the athletes’ efforts in a message posted on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), and promised that they will receive “broader support.”

In the official statement released by the Taliban government, these medalists were referred to as the “pride of the country,” with the declaration emphasizing that their efforts are “worthy of recognition and support in all circumstances.”

The Asian Wushu Championship for Youth and Juniors took place from July 23 to 29 2025 in Shanghai, China. Afghanistan’s team participated with a group of seven athletes in both the Sanda and Taolu events
