TTP Proposes Ceasefire with Four Specific Conditions

DID Press: Following a series of meetings between the local jirga and the TTP delegation, the group has proposed four conditions for establishing a ceasefire in Bajaur.

As part of continued efforts to establish a ceasefire in Bajaur, a local jirga led by Sahibzada Haroon Rashid, former member of Pakistan’s Parliament, met with a TTP delegation headed by Ilyas Muhajir.

The main goal of the meeting was to discuss a ceasefire and to protect the lives of civilians.

One participant in the session said that while the TTP did not agree to a complete withdrawal from the area, it presented four key conditions for a ceasefire:

  1. No attacks on TTP forces
  2. Relocation to remote areas
  3. Defensive response only in case of attack
  4. Providing of supplies under jirga supervision

This was the second meeting between the jirga and the TTP, following the first session held on July 31, after which discussions were also held with security officials.

Following these talks, the local jirga announced that it will once again meet with security authorities in an effort to secure a ceasefire.

Given the current circumstances, it appears that stability in the region remains dependent on continued negotiations and agreements between the involved parties.
