Rights of Foreign Nationals our Priority, Says Iran’s Migration Authority
DID Press: Head of Iran’s Center for Foreign Nationals and Migrants underlined the urgent need to establish the National Migration Organization.

Nader YarAhmadi, head of the Center for Foreign Nationals and Migrants at Iran’s Ministry of Interior, recently stressed the importance of quickly forming the National Migration Organization, saying, “The purpose of merging the government’s bill and the parliament’s proposal is to legalize the status of migrants in the country.”
With the approval of this bill, Iran’s migration policies will become unified, preventing arbitrary interference by individuals and institutions, he added.
Majid Ahmadi, Director General of Foreign Nationals and Migrants Affairs of Fars Province, also supported the establishment of such organization, highlighting its role in enhancing security and economic development. “This organization can help regulate migration by implementing cohesive and integrated policies,” he said.
They warned this issue might conflict with labor laws and create problems for the Iranian workforce.
According to provided statistics, about 87% of foreign nationals working in Iran are employed in low-skilled jobs, which could lead to wage inequality and decrease demand for domestic workers.
Furthermore, the concentration of 60% of migrants in specific areas such as Tehran and Mashhad has created additional challenges in specialized education and employment.
It is worth noting that the formation of the National Migration Organization has previously faced criticism, with some arguing that the organization should also address issues related to Iranian migrants abroad and internal migration.
Criticism also includes concerns about the political and social impacts of focusing on Afghanistan migrants’ issues.
These issues highlight the complex challenges involved in managing migration and improving the situation of migrants in Iran, indicating a need for greater attention to diverse perspectives in this area.
