Republican Lawmaker: Reclaiming Bagram Strategic and Logical Move

DID Press: US Republican Congressman Riley Moore supported Donald Trump’s decision to reclaim Bagram Airbase, calling it a strategic step and stressing both the site’s geographic importance and Washington’s past investments there. Moore also noted that regaining Bagram can play a role in countering China’s influence.

“There is no doubt this move makes complete strategic sense. What a tragedy it is that we now have no eyes and ears there, after billions of dollars spent and American lives lost to secure that position in the first place,” said Moore in an interview with Newsmax.

Bagram Air Base, once the largest U.S. military installation in Afghanistan before 2021, fell under Taliban control following the American withdrawal. During a joint press conference with British Prime Minister, Trump declared: “We are working to take back Bagram Air Base,” adding that the Taliban “want things from us, and we want that base.”

Highlighting Bagram’s proximity to China, Moore said: “China is an existential and equal-level threat to the United States. Deterrence in this region must therefore be a priority.”

However, some U.S. officials have cautioned that reclaiming Bagram would require tens of thousands of troops, massive expenditures, and complex logistical operations. They stressed that no immediate military plan to seize the base is currently in place.
