Poll: Most Afghanistan People View US-Taliban Bagram Deal as Sovereignty Violation
DID Press: Results of a new poll conducted by DID Press indicate that an overwhelming majority of respondents view any potential agreement between the United States and Taliban’s caretaker administration over Bagram air base as a serious threat to Afghanistan’s national sovereignty.

Amid growing speculation about a possible deal that would allow U.S. forces to return to Bagram, DID Press Agency launched an online survey as public participated widely.
According to the findings, 73 percent of respondents described such an agreement as a “violation of national sovereignty.” In contrast, only 2 percent characterized it as a “temporary and fragile arrangement.” Meanwhile, 13 percent said they believed such an understanding could create “an opportunity for regional stability,” while 11 percent reported being “indifferent” or having no opinion.
The results reflect heightened sensitivity of Afghanistan society toward the issue of Bagram — a base that for two decades symbolized U.S. military presence in the country and now lies at the center of renewed tensions between Kabul and Washington.
Analysts warn that widespread public opposition to any potential handover of Bagram back to the United States could significantly complicate negotiations and impose a heavy political cost on the Taliban inside the country.
