Israel Begins Transferring Palestinian Prisoners under Swap Deal

DID Press: Transferring hundreds of Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails has begun, marking a key step toward implementing a prisoner exchange agreement between Hamas and Israel, reported Israeli media outlets.

According to Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth, Israel Prison Service has received official orders to release a number of Palestinian security prisoners and has started moving them from five detention facilities to designated release centers.

Around 250 Palestinian inmates serving life sentences and nearly 1,700 detainees from the Gaza Strip — arrested after the events of October 7 — are included in this stage of the deal, the report added.

Observers view the move, which began on Friday, as a major step toward carrying out the prisoner exchange agreement and a potential measure to ease recent tensions in the region.
