Italy Allocates €2 mln to Support Afghanistani Returnees

DID Press: Italian government has allocated €2 million to support Afghanistani returnees and vulnerable communities across Afghanistan, according to a statement released by the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR).

The funding aims to assist more than two million Afghans who have returned from Iran and Pakistan in 2025, amid one of the largest waves of migration in recent years.

The contribution will be distributed through UNHCR to vulnerable groups, including women, children, and families in need, providing essential humanitarian aid and services.

UNHCR noted that Afghanistan continues to face severe strain on limited resources due to the mass return of migrants and welcomed Italy’s initiative as part of broader efforts to alleviate humanitarian pressure and support reintegration.

The agency also called on other donor countries to increase support to address the ongoing challenges faced by returnees and host communities.
