Indian Express: Mistrust still Defines Taliban–Pakistan Ties

DID Press: Indian Express reported that despite recent talks in Doha preventing a full-scale war between Islamabad and Kabul, deep mistrust, regional rivalries, and historical grievances continue to fuel tensions between Pakistan and the Taliban.

The analysis argues that Pakistan remains uneasy over the Taliban’s growing ties with India while facing escalating attacks from Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). It noted that Islamabad, long a supporter of the Afghan Taliban, is now paying the price for its own policies.

The paper described the Taliban government as “fragile and medieval,” arguing that lasting change in Afghanistan must emerge from within, not through foreign intervention.

According to the Indian Express, the ongoing rift is not between the people of Afghanistan and Pakistan, but between Islamabad and the Taliban government — a relationship once based on influence that has now devolved into mistrust.
