Afghan–Russian Agricultural Axis Deepen with New Joint Farming Initiatives

DID Press: During a formal visit to Moscow, agriculture ministers of the de facto of Afghanistan and Russian Federation agreed to deepen bilateral cooperation in agriculture, water-management and livestock, aiming to launch joint projects, exchange technical know-how and boost Afghan agricultural exports to Russia.

In their talks, Afghan Minister Ataullah Omari emphasized the need to modernize irrigation systems, improve livestock breeding, and enhance the technical capacity of agricultural staff in Afghanistan — while the Russian side offered advanced irrigation technology, training Afghan specialists, and expanding agricultural trade links.

The two sides described the agreement as a step toward renewed and sustainable cooperation, underlining their intention to coordinate on agricultural development, resource-management and export infrastructure.

The development reflects a broader rapprochement between Moscow and Kabul after Russia’s formal recognition of the Taliban administration in 2025 — a move that has cleared the way for increased economic, energy and agricultural engagements between the two governments.
