Russian Border Guards Deployed on Tajikistan–Afghanistan Border

DID Press: Highlighting the presence of Russian border troops in Tajikistan, Kremlin emphasized the importance of continuing dialogue and contacts with Afghanistan.

Dmitry Peskov, spokesperson for the Russian presidency, told Indian media ahead of the Russia–India summit in New Delhi: “We have relations with Afghanistan. There is a de facto government in Afghanistan. The country is strategically important and shares borders with former Soviet territories, including Tajikistan.”

“Thats why, we must maintain dialogue with Afghanistan, and in this regard, we have full understanding with India,” He added.

Peskov further stated that “Russian border troops are stationed in Tajikistan.”

This statement comes after five Chinese nationals were killed in attacks launched from Afghanistan territory in Tajikistan.
