DID Press: Russia’s FM sharply criticized the European Union, saying Brussels has become one of the main threats to the global order and should not rely on sustained U.S. support, as Washington’s strategic focus is on containing China.

Sergey Lavrov said that Ukraine is fighting Russia “under the banner of Nazism” with Western weapons and support. He accused the European Union of subordinating national governments while ignoring the interests of their peoples. He described Europe as the historical source of slavery, colonialism, and two world wars, adding that today it is reviving Nazi thinking and using the Ukraine crisis to entrench its dominance.
Referring to the delivery of Western weapons to Kyiv after the 2014 events, Lavrov called this a continuation of Europe’s long-standing policies against Russia and warned about statements by German officials regarding Germany’s return as Europe’s leading military power.
The Russian foreign minister also said that the new U.S. National Security Strategy shows Washington seeks to limit Europe’s role, while prioritizing confrontation with China and focusing on the Asia-Pacific region and Latin America.Lavrov described Western sanctions against Russia, Iran, and other countries as “dirty tools to suppress competitors” and called the freezing of assets a form of “systematic theft.”In another part of his remarks, he criticized what he described as the European Union’s authoritarian approaches and verbally attacked Ursula von der Leyen.
On Middle East issues, he said that implementing UN resolutions to establish a Palestinian state is a prerequisite for normalizing relations between the Islamic world and Israel. He also described the U.S. withdrawal from the JCPOA and Europe’s attempts to blame Iran as a “disgrace of Western diplomacy,” strongly criticizing what he called Western double standards in international law.
