Another Israeli Soldier Commits Suicide, Toll Reaches 61 Since Gaza War

DID Press: Israeli media have reported the death of another Israeli soldier by suicide at a military base in northern Israel, bringing the total number of suicide-related deaths in the Israeli military since the start of the Gaza war in October 2023 to 61.

According to the newspaper Haaretz, the soldier — who was serving compulsory military duty — critically injured himself after shooting himself inside the base and later died on Tuesday evening in hospital. The Israeli army had earlier stated that a soldier was seriously wounded in a shooting incident at a military base in northern Israel and had been transferred to hospital. The statement added that a military police investigation had been launched.

A report by the Knesset Research and Information Center indicates that between the beginning of 2024 and July 2025, at least 279 Israeli soldiers attempted suicide. The data suggest an average of one suicide death for approximately every seven attempts.

The Israeli military has confirmed that since the outbreak of the Gaza war in October 2023, 48 soldiers died by suicide while on active duty, while at least 13 others took their own lives outside their period of service.

The figures have raised growing concern among Israeli officials, lawmakers, and mental health experts over the psychological toll of prolonged military operations and the ongoing conflict.
