Taliban: Over 3M Afghan Migrants Returned in 2025
DID Press: Taliban’s Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation announced that more than three million Afghan migrants returned from neighboring countries, primarily Iran and Pakistan, in 2025.

Spokesperson Abdulmutalib Haqqani highlighted that returns are ongoing from Iran, Pakistan, and Turkey. UNHCR data indicate that at least 2.8 million Afghans returned from Iran (1.8 million) and Pakistan (930,000).
However, the UN warns that many returnees, particularly women and girls, face serious protection risks, including arbitrary detention, torture, and extrajudicial killings. Repatriations from Tajikistan also continue, with at least 1,700 Afghans returned.
