DID Press: Local authorities in Indonesia reported that at least 16 people were killed in a fire at a senior care center in the city of Manado.
The deadly blaze broke out at the “Werdha Damai” nursing home on the island of Sulawesi on Sunday evening (Dec. 28), killing 16 and injuring three more. Firefighters managed to bring the fire under control after extensive efforts.
Officials said most of the victims were elderly residents who were unable to evacuate the building in time.
Jimmy Rutinsolo, head of the Manado Fire Department, stated that investigations into the exact cause of the fire are ongoing, and further details have not yet been released.
This incident is considered one of the deadliest recent accidents in elderly care facilities in Indonesia.
