Taliban Destroys 20,000 Acres of Drug Crops, Seizes Tons of Narcotics in 2025

DID Press: Taliban government released its annual report on anti-drug operations for 2025, claiming that in over 47,000 operations, nearly 20,000 acres of cannabis and opium fields were destroyed and tens of tons of narcotics and psychoactive substances were seized.

Hamdullah Fetrat, Deputy Spokesperson for the Taliban government, published the report detailing the year’s efforts to combat cultivation, production, and trafficking of drugs. According to the report, Taliban forces conducted a total of 47,422 operations in 2025, most of which targeted the destruction of drug cultivation and the disruption of trafficking networks.

The breakdown includes: 10,599 operations against suspects and drug networks, 27,511 operations to destroy drug fields, 8,296 operations to collect addicts, and 1,016 operations to arrest traffickers.

In terms of production facilities, Taliban forces destroyed 31 alcoholic beverage centers, 9 tablet-producing laboratories, and 477 drug processing centers.

Significant quantities of narcotics and psychoactive substances were seized during these operations, including 555 kg of heroin, 232 kg of morphine, 32.5 tons of opium, 33.8 tons of hashish, 3 tons of methamphetamine, 3.7 tons of alcoholic beverages, 4 tons of fermented raisins, 7 tons of poppy seeds, and 181 kg of raw opium. Additionally, 310 tons of chemical precursors and millions of industrial pills—including Ouman, Zikp, Methadone, and Tablet-ka—were confiscated.

The report notes that in total, 19,761 acres of cannabis and opium fields were destroyed in 2025.

In the arrest category, 29,623 traffickers were detained and 35,228 addicts were collected, of whom 10,664 underwent treatment and rehabilitation.
