No Market Leaves Bamyan Artists Struggling to Sell Their Work

DID Press: An increasing number of painters and calligraphers in Afghanistan’s Bamyan province say the absence of a viable market for artworks has become their most serious challenge, despite notable growth in visual arts in the region.

Artists say many young people have turned to painting and calligraphy in recent years, producing valuable works, but limited opportunities to exhibit and sell their art have left much of it unsold and confined to workshops.

They warn that the continued lack of regular exhibitions and access to domestic and international markets could lead to frustration among artists and undermine Bamyan’s artistic progress.

Painters and calligraphers have called on cultural institutions, local authorities, and relevant organizations to organize national and international exhibitions to help promote and sell their work.

They argue that supporting the arts would not only improve artists’ livelihoods but also play a key role in preserving cultural identity and showcasing Bamyan’s artistic profile nationally and globally.
