UN Rapporteur Urges Global Suspension of Ties with Israel

DID Press: UN Special Rapporteur on the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories has sharply criticized Israel’s conduct, stressing that it has no legal right to block the entry of humanitarian organizations into the Gaza Strip or other occupied areas and is obligated to comply with international law.

The rapporteur called on all countries to suspend their relations with Israel in response to what he described as repeated violations of international legal norms. He urged governments to maintain this suspension until Israel fully adheres to its legal and humanitarian obligations.

According to the UN official, continued diplomatic, political and economic engagement without accountability only enables further breaches of international law and undermines global efforts to protect civilians and humanitarian access in conflict zones.
