Amnesty Alarmed Over Civilian Casualties in Pakistan Airstrikes on Nangarhar

DID Press: Amnesty International expressed deep concern over reports of civilian deaths and injuries during Pakistan’s airstrikes on Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province on February 21–22. The human rights organization called for a comprehensive, independent, and impartial investigation into the incidents.

“Reports of harm to civilians are deeply troubling and require immediate examination. The protection of civilians is a fundamental obligation under international law,” said a spokesperson for Amnesty.

Local sources indicate that women and children were among those killed or injured in the strikes. Nangarhar authorities condemned the attacks, emphasizing that innocent families bore the brunt of the violence.

These events come amid recurring tensions and clashes along the disputed Durand Line border, which has seen an increase in civilian casualties in recent months.

Amnesty International urged all parties to take every necessary measure to protect civilians and ensure that any use of force strictly adheres to international humanitarian law. The organization also called on the global community to pressure the parties toward restraint and the pursuit of diplomatic solutions to prevent further escalation along the Durand border.
