DID Press: During a flight to Algeria, Pope Leo said he does not view his role as political and does not intend to engage in disputes with U.S. President Donald Trump over recent remarks.

“I am not a politician and I do not want to enter into debate with him,” he said, adding that the message of the Gospel should not be misused by different actors.
The pontiff stressed that he continues to speak out clearly against war and promotes peace, dialogue, and multilateral cooperation as pathways to resolving global conflicts.
“Many people are suffering today, many innocent lives have been lost,” he said. “Someone must stand up and say there is a better way.”
